EMDR INTENSIVE

Are You Frustrated By The Limitations Of Intermittent Therapy?

Are you a millennial or Gen Z woman struggling with anxiety, perfectionism, low self-esteem, childhood trauma, burnout, people-pleasing, relationship challenges, or traumatic experiences in adulthood?

Although you’ve been in therapy, do weekly sessions limit your ability to go deep enough to make sustainable progress? Or have you been wanting to start therapy but looking for a more efficient way that ensures you will spend less time in sessions but experience results more quickly? You may feel frustrated if you have been in therapy for a while and haven’t experienced the transformation you were hoping for. Perhaps 50-minute weekly sessions do not provide you with adequate time to work through your issues. Just when you’ve started to make a breakthrough, your time is up, and progress is postponed until the following week.

Your Trauma And Anxiety Symptoms May Continue To Affect You

Your trauma and anxiety might be affecting you

Without the benefit of uninterrupted time to go deeper and explore the root causes of your trauma or anxiety, you might continue to be affected by unpleasant symptoms whenever you are triggered, such as nightmares, hypervigilance, dissociation, and sleeplessness. Because there never seems to be enough time in weekly sessions to pinpoint what triggers to avoid, your emotional distress persists.

Trauma and anxiety don’t have to create a barrier to becoming the best version of yourself. Receiving intensive, evidence-based Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing treatment (EMDR) provides you with the concentrated time you may need to make breakthroughs and maintain progress. Rather than taking an incremental approach to therapy, an EMDR intensive offers you uninterrupted time to delve into the root causes of your trauma and anxiety.

An EMDR Intensive Offers You The Opportunity To Go Deeper And Make Progress More Quickly

If you need to resolve underlying trauma, thirty minutes of reprocessing each week may not be enough time to get to the root of your issues. If you feel held back by the limitations of weekly therapy or don’t want to spend years in treatment, you should consider an EMDR intensive. EMDR intensive therapy may be a good option if you want to:

  • Eliminate the time constraints that may be hindering your progress

  • Get started with trauma therapy but don't have time for weekly sessions

  • Heal from childhood abuse and/or neglect and let go of internalized guilt and shame

  • Process trauma resulting from partner violence or physical/sexual assault

  • Prepare for big life changes, such as a career move, marriage, or parenthood

  • Stop constant worry and anxiety

  • Heal your relationships with family, friends, kids, and co-workers

  • Develop positive self-esteem instead of always being hard on yourself

  • Ditch people-pleasing and perfectionistic tendencies

  • Recover from burnout and enjoy your job again or build up the confidence to switch careers

  • Experience healing and transformation sooner than later

Your EMDR intensive will be completely tailored to your needs. As an EMDR-trained therapist who is fully virtual, all sessions will be conducted from the comfort of your own home.

What To Expect With An EMDR Intensive

    • A 1-hour intake session to explain more about EMDR and prepare you for the intensive. I will get to know more about your history, past treatment, social support, and coping strategies. We will go over your current coping skills and learn some new mindfulness-based coping skills if needed.

    • Depending on your needs, the intensive itself can last anywhere from 90 minutes to 6 hours. After you choose the length you want, we will create a timeline for your intensive, including integrating 15-minute breaks throughout the day per your preference.

    • After the EMDR intensive, we will schedule an integrative follow-up session to discuss how you are doing and ensure you have mastered coping skills to manage any triggering situations you may encounter down the road.

  • EMDR intensives can be scheduled seven days a week, depending on your time preferences. The cost for an EMDR Intensive is $250/hour. While it is ideal for you to have learned coping skills previously, it is not a prerequisite. An EMDR intensive may not be for you if you are actively experiencing suicidal ideation.

How An EMDR Intensive Compares To Traditional Therapy

EMDR is an evidence-based modality that addresses trauma differently than traditional talk therapy. Oftentimes, distressful experiences do not get stored away as long-term memories in the brain. Instead, they remain stuck in an area of the brain where they are more accessible and feel more immediate. These misfiled memories can trigger physical and emotional responses that seem like we are reliving that moment.

Rather than using the analytical part of your brain to interpret the memory, EMDR engages the brain’s natural ability to heal itself on a subconscious level. Bilateral stimulation uses gentle methods such as eye movements, cross-lateral “butterfly” hugs, or hand tapping to activate the two hemispheres of the brain simultaneously. Sustaining bilateral activation while focusing on a traumatic memory allows your brain to reprocess your experience so that memory loses its emotional charge. Research has demonstrated that EMDR intensives are not only particularly effective treatment for resolving trauma but also have the added benefit of being cost-effective.

With the option of intensive EMDR therapy, you can experience substantial change faster. This means that you don't have to dedicate time and money to ongoing trauma treatment. With an intensive, you can develop self-awareness and change the narrative about your trauma or anxiety. With the benefit of concentrated therapy, you can recover from burnout, people-pleasing, and perfectionism, allowing you to feel calmer, more confident, and lighter as you release guilt and shame.

But You May Wonder Whether An EMDR Intensive Is Right For You…

  • Understandably, you may worry that an EMDR intensive with a therapist will be too much to process. Before getting underway, we will conduct a consultation to ensure that you are a good candidate for EMDR intensive therapy. If we determine that you are not suitable for an EMDR intensive, we can discuss other options for you.

  • I strive to make therapy as affordable as possible for my clients. Overall, intensive therapy is more affordable than going to weekly therapy for months or even years. For my private practice, I am considered an out-of-network provider. I work with Mentaya, a billing service that submits claims on your behalf so you can get reimbursed faster. Depending on your out-of-network benefits, some of your intensive may be eligible for reimbursement through your insurance.

  • The benefit of scheduling several hours of continuous EMDR therapy is that it allows you to peel back the onion of trauma without interruption. Once you have made a breakthrough, you will have adequate time to sit with your discovery. Because EMDR taps into your brain’s innate ability to heal itself, traumatic memories that have been improperly filed will get reprocessed so they no longer cause distressful flashbacks or nightmares.
