THERAPY FOR WOMEN

Are You Struggling To Keep Up With The Expectations Placed Upon You?

Does constant pressure to perform at a high level and please others leave you exhausted by the end of the day?

Is it common for you to give more of yourself than you have the bandwidth for just to gain approval and acceptance? Have you ever been confronted by gender bias, harassment, or discrimination at work or in male-dominated spaces?

As a woman, the emotional labor you’re expected to perform at work and home can easily become overwhelming. Perhaps your work responsibilities and obligations to loved ones keep you endlessly busy and over-committed. Additionally, you may feel pressure to look good on the outside, juggling personal appointments, working out, and eating well. At the end of the day, all of these demands can leave you depleted. After giving so much to others, you have nothing left for yourself.

You May Be At A Breaking Point

You may be at breaking point and need a therapist

Maybe no matter how many things you achieve, you never feel satisfied with your accomplishments. Despite dutifully checking off items on your to-do list, your list always seems to be getting longer—never shorter. Eventually, this pressure to achieve so much may cause burnout, especially when so much that you do is for the benefit of others. You may have reached a breaking point at work where you’ve lost your motivation and find yourself letting go of responsibilities.

If gender-based pressures are causing anxiety and emotional distress, therapy for women can help. Working with a female therapist who specializes in common women’s issues, such as perfectionism and people-pleasing, you can explore whatever challenges you face in therapy.

Younger Women Are Susceptible To Mental Health Issues

It is not a coincidence that women are more than twice as likely than men to suffer from anxiety. In addition to the stressors caused by systemic gender inequality, “pregnancy, addiction, and other health-related conditions” also contribute to this statistic. What’s more, according to studies, “over a quarter of women aged 16-24 struggle with mental health in any given week,” and “75 percent of mental health issues are established before the age of 24.”

As millennials and Gen Z women, we have been immersed in a culture that expects us to have it all. Not only are we supposed to focus on our careers and families, but social media has seen to it that we don’t neglect our appearance and health. With so much pressure to be perfect all the time, it’s no wonder that so many of us feel stressed out and stretched thin.

Women Face More Obstacles Than Men To Achieve What They Want

Along with the illusion constructed by social media, women are confronted with a host of additional stressors that can make our lives more difficult to navigate than men. Getting what we want typically takes more work on our part and, additionally, requires overcoming more obstacles. We may encounter discrimination, harassment, wage discrepancy, and other challenges to attain what we deserve. Despite these barriers, we feel that we must not make waves or come across as aggressive or outspoken for fear of being ostracized.

The tightrope we walk each day can make us feel out of our depth. Even though we’ve worked hard to achieve our goals, we may experience imposter syndrome and lack the confidence to acknowledge that we truly deserve what we have accomplished.

With so much on your plate, therapy for women gives you a chance to slow down and focus on yourself. Talking to a therapist who focuses on women’s unique challenges can help you address the issues that affect you most and find solutions.

Therapy Tailored For Women Can Help You Put Things In Perspective

If you are like most women, some days feel like an uphill battle from the moment you wake up. With so many people relying on you, it can be hard to find time for yourself. Without maintaining proper balance, you’re prone to burnout and emotional exhaustion.

Therapy for women offers you a safe space to discuss your challenges as well as identify established patterns that may contribute to people-pleasing and perfectionism. No matter what issues you may struggle with, women’s counseling can provide tools that foster self-confidence and empowerment.

What To Expect In Therapy For Women

Your therapy sessions will be tailored to your unique needs and address the gender-based stressors you are experiencing. Together, we can discover the root cause of your issues and delve into the patterns and habits that may contribute to your worldview. We will work toward your long-term goals to ensure that we build your confidence, dismantle people-pleasing and perfectionism, and reduce loneliness and anxiety.

We will discuss your issues holistically, considering work burnout, family responsibilities, nutrition, hormonal health, movement, social responsibilities, and any other gender-based issues you may be dealing with. Processing unresolved trauma and tapping into your resiliency will help you shed any blame or shame you may carry. After building up your self-esteem, you won't question your decisions anymore and will finally put yourself first. Therapy for women can help you build the life that you have always wanted and open yourself to new opportunities.

An Evidence-Based Approach To Women’s Therapy

I use Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and mindfulness practices tailored for women. We can utilize CBT to help you understand your thought patterns, feelings, and behaviors and how they interrelate. CBT allows you to change unhealthy thought patterns to reduce anxiety and burnout. Alleviating anxiety can help you feel more relaxed and confident. Additionally, DBT offers practical coping and relationship skills to build healthy relationships with healthy boundaries and manage daily stressors. And practicing mindfulness allows you to stay more present and feel more fulfilled each day.

You may struggle with wanting to do it all yourself, but working with a therapist in counseling can help you better manage the stressors that affect women in particular. It's possible to feel calmer and more confident with the decisions you make and put yourself first. Putting your needs first allows you to envision your best life.

But You May Wonder Whether Therapy For Women Is Right For You…

  • The goal of women’s therapy is to teach you the skills and tools to cope with gender-based issues on your own. I want to help you learn things that you can implement so that you don't have to come to therapy as much or eventually at all. We will collaboratively work towards your goals in therapy and reduce sessions as you start to reach them.

  • You can use counseling to explore a variety of women’s issues, including work/life balance and career burnout, career and other life transitions, relationship changes, self-care, people-pleasing, low self-esteem, poor body image, perfectionism, social anxiety, and generalized anxiety. If you're not sure what you want to bring up in therapy for women, we can talk about the current stressors you face that you could use some additional support with.

  • I work with a lot of busy women who struggle to fit therapy into their schedules. If it’s challenging for you to carve out consistent time in your schedule, I’m flexible. For example, we can schedule longer sessions monthly rather than committing to weekly therapy. And because I offer Telehealth, you can fit in sessions during your lunch hour if necessary. No matter what, I don't want time restraints to be a barrier to seeking counseling for women and getting the care you need.
